This comes after a group of robbers attacked a Cash-In-Transit (CIT) vehicle using explosives in Lotus Gardens, west of Pretoria, just before sunset on Tuesday.

National police spokesperson, Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, says the robbers forced the CIT vehicle to a halt after firing gunshots at the vehicle.

The guards were disarmed and the suspects blew open the safe in the vehicle.

They fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, as well as the firearms that belonged to the guards.

The female suspect was arrested a few hours after the robbery, at a house in Kgokong street in Atteridgeville.

"They (police) arrested one woman, recovered two vehicles which are believed were involved in that particular robbery, recovered tens of thousands of rand, as well as at least one firearm which was taken from one of the security guards during the robbery, " says Naidoo.

The suspect is currently in police custody and faces charges of being in possession of an unlawful firearm and being in possession of property suspected to have been stolen.

"Depending on the investigation progresses, the suspect might even be charged with armed robbery."
