Madlanga Commission: Feroz Khan testimony to be heard privately
Updated | By JacarandaFM Newswatch
The hearing of sacked crime intelligence deputy Feroz Khan will be heard in-camera on Tuesday next week.
The Madlanga commission of inquiry has directed that the questioning of Khan, on evidence that was led in his absence in July, will be heard behind closed doors following an earlier application.
Evidence leaders asked commissioners to grant that Khan’s lawyers be present at the in-camera proceedings.
Among the reasons advanced for the application is the risk of disclosing the identities of police informants linked to organised gangs, and the potential exposure of evidence relating to ongoing sensitive investigations.

Khan has sought several postponements, citing health challenges after he was shot on the eve of what was meant to be his initial appearance.
Earlier in the week, the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry ordered that criminal charges be laid against Khan.
Commission chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga directed the commission’s secretary, Dr Nolitha Vukuza, to take the necessary steps to pursue the charges.
Khan was subpoenaed to appear before the commission and had been given the option of testifying virtually following an independent medical assessment.
But he did not appear in person or by video link.
Madlanga dismissed Khan’s application for a further postponement, finding that the subpoena had been lawfully issued and that Khan had failed to comply with it.
