Police have confirmed the arrest of a fifth suspect on Tuesday in connection with the violence at Matshediso Primary School in Katlehong.
On Monday, four people, including Paseka Motsoeneng, better known as Pastor Mboro, were arrested after children were forcibly removed from the school.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the suspects are seen in the video wielding pangas and threatening to attack teachers on the school premises.
The incident is believed to have been sparked by a family feud.
The suspects face charges of assault, intimidation, and possession of dangerous weapons, among others.
“Yes, I can confirm that today, a fifth person has been arrested by the team established to continue with the investigation,” said Major General Anna Sithole of the Ekurhuleni Cluster.
Earlier, Motsoeneng’s Incredible Happenings Church in Katlehong was set alight by angry members of the community.
Eyewitnesses allege that a group of schoolchildren arrived in two busses and looted the marquee before setting it alight.
Police could not confirm whether Motsoeneng would be among the five suspects set to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
