Fita to approach SCA over tobacco sales ban

The Fair-Trade Independent Tobacco Association (Fita) says it will approach the Supreme Court of Appeal over the ban on the sale of tobacco products.
The High Court in Pretoria on Friday dismissed an attempt by Fita to appeal a previous ruling in favour of the ban on the sale of tobacco products during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Fita chairperson Sinenhlanhla Mnguni says the organisation will definitely appeal the ruling.
"We perused and considered the judgment brought down earlier today, dismissing our application for leave to appeal the court ruling in relation to the ban on the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products.
“When we went into this process, we were always mindful of the challenges that one will face. This did not come as a surprise and our plan was always to say that if we do not succeed to petition the Supreme Court of Appeal.”
