Five Gauteng Health officials axed for corruption
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Five officials from the Gauteng Department of Health and Infrastructure Development Department have been dismissed for corruption.

Their axing follows an inquiry into the Anglo Ashanti Hospital in Carltonville.
The officials were investigated for irregularity in awarding contracts for the refurbishment of the hospital in 2022.
Special Investigating Unit spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said the investigation uncovered evidence of financial misconduct involving several individuals from both departments.
The dismissed include the Head of Infrastructure Development from the Health Department and the acting Head of the Infrastructure Department.
The SIU found that during the hospital refurbishment project in March 2020, no supply chain management procedures were followed when procuring service providers for the refurbishment.
"The Gauteng Health Department was misled into believing that only minor renovations were needed at the AGA Hospital.
"This is a contravention of the Public Finance Management Act and National Treasury’s regulations, causing the department to incur fruitless and wasteful for goods and services supplied.”
