In Ekurhuleni, the city`s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) are on high alert and are warning residents and motorists that roads across the City are slippery and flooding imminent.

"Some roads are having potholes filled with rainwater and it's very difficult to identify. Deep and large potholes may and can lead to fatal crashes," said Ekurhuleni DEMS' William Ntladi.

"Keeping following distances and adhering to speed limits can save lives. Drivers should check their vehicles' tyres, wipers, and lights before traveling to prevent accidents from happening.  By so doing, lives could be saved."

Communities in low-lying areas have been advised to be on high alert.

"The ground is saturated, and any drizzle experienced may result in flooding. The tendency of crossing water streams using an inappropriate route, such as water pipes erected across those streams is, a dangerous practice which could lead to drowning," said Ntladi. .
