Food Lover’s Market in Diepkloof to reopen its doors
The Food Lover’s Market store in Diepkloof has been given the green light by the City of Johannesburg to resume trading.
The store was forced to shut its doors three week ago after a video went viral showing a rat gnawing on food at the store.
The city’s MMC for health and social development Mpho Phalatse says it is important that stores follow the necessary health and safety regulations in order to avoid being shut down.
"The department will continue to shut down outlets that fail to comply with food safety regulations and place the lives of residents at risk.
"This is an example of what will happen if food outlets are found to be in contravention of environmental health legislation. We hope that owners and managers will put systems in place to ensure ongoing compliance so our residents can be served on a dignified manner."
Phalatse says the city will continue to monitor all food outlets in Gauteng to ensure they comply with food safety regulations.
