Ford announces recall of selected Ranger, Everest vehicles

NCC spokesperson, Phetho Ntaba, said the affected vehicles were sold between 11 July 2018 and 28 February 2020 across South Africa, including exports to Botswana, Lesotho and eSwatini.

"According to the supplier, the transmission fluid pump gear in the affected vehicles may fail, resulting in a reduction of hydraulic pressure within the transmission," said Ntaba.

"This may cause the vehicle to lose movement due to transmission fluid pump gear failure, increasing the risk of an incident while driving."

On Thursday, the NCC also announced a safety recall for the Nissan Qashqai, Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX600 models.

Ntaba said the Nissan Qashqais were sold between 2021 and 2024, from 4 May 2021 to 17 September 2024.

“The 314 Nissan Qashqai units form part of the recall that was initiated by Nissan last year in October. This recall is due to a fuel leak, especially when the engine is operating or running.”

Hundreds of Toyota Land Cruiser [507] and Lexus [124] vehicles were sold from 13 December 2022 to 7 May 2024 and exported to Botswana and Namibia.

“We understand that the issue with these vehicles is an engine problem, the V35A engine. The manufacturing firm, the NCC, [requests] that the owners submit their vehicles to any authorised dealership to have engines replaced at no cost to the consumer,” said Ntaba.

Customers who own affected vehicles have been urged to take them to their nearest dealership for free repairs.
