Adrian van Zyl appeared in court on Friday on seven counts of statutory rape and exposure of his genitals to a 13-year-old girl between 2015 and 2016.

Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) spokesperson Sontaga Seisa says Van Zyl is expected back in court next Friday.

"Immediately after conviction Van Zyl, who was out on bail, was sent to prison. He requested a bail hearing and he is to appear on Friday, 13 December."

The 44-year-old is expected to be back in court in January for a correctional officer’s report and sentencing respectively, Seisa added.
