Former Spur CEO Pierre van Tonder passes away

Former Spur Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pierre van Tonder has passed away.
Van Tonder died in hospital on Sunday evening, after shooting himself in his home in Cape Town last week.
"It is with great sadness that Spur Corporation confirms that former CEO Pierre van Tonder passed away on Sunday evening, 9 May, a week after shooting himself at his home in Cape Town," reads a statement released by Spur Corporation CEO, Val Nichas.
"We extend our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to his wife Jane and children Margot and Jordan.

"We thank everyone for their overwhelming support and prayers for Pierre over the past week."
Van Tonder was Managing Director (MD) and CEO of the Spur group for 24 years and retired in December 2020.
Under his leadership, the group expanded from a small business of approximately 40 restaurants into over 630 restaurants in South Africa and a presence in 17 countries.
