Four arrested in police shootout at Wits
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Police in Gauteng have arrested four suspects and recovered two firearms following a shootout with suspected robbers near the entrance of Wits University.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Fairlands police station commander Clive Defreitas says members were patrolling when they spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle.
"They started to follow it, the vehicle noticed the marked police van and started to speed off very dangerously. The chase continued into Linden Area and then into Empire Road where the suspects started to shoot at the police," explains Defreitas.
Defreitas says the vehicle drove towards the university’s entrance, where the four suspects were arrested.
"The number plates of the Etios were false and stuck onto the car with double sided tape. Investigation into a possibility that the suspects and the car can be linked to any crime is underway.”
