Four extortion suspects killed in Khayelitsha shootout
Four suspects were shot dead in Khayelitsha’s Site C, in the Western Cape, during a confrontation with police.
Police reports indicate that Provincial Combat team members were following information about suspects involved in the extortion of businesses in the area when a vehicle with occupants fitting the description was spotted.
Officers followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over on Japhta K Masemola Road.
“The occupants of the vehicle pulled out firearms and pointed at the police. The team responded and consequently, four yet-to-be identified males were fatally wounded,” said police spokesperson Novela Potelwa.
Three firearms were confiscated on the scene.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the shooting incident.
