Four people killed in crash on R577 in Mpumalanga
Four people have been killed and one person injured in a crash on the R577 road between Roossenekal and Mashishing, formerly known as Lydenburg, in Mpumalanga.
The crash happened at around 7am on Saturday.
"According to preliminary reports, the driver of a Volkswagen light motor vehicle lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. The driver and three passengers died on impact at the scene", said Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
Mpumalanga Community Safety MEC, Jackie Macie, expressed concern over the continued loss of lives on the province’s roads, saying many crashes could be prevented through responsible driving.
"We cannot allow road deaths to become so frequent when most of these incidents are avoidable. All that is required is responsible driver behaviour to end this mayhem and make our roads safer. We all need to obey the rules."
