Four suspects killed, two arrested in Soweto shootout
Four suspects were fatally wounded and two others arrested following a shootout with law enforcement in Mofolo, Soweto, on Wednesday.
The operation involved members of the Hawks’ Tactical Operation Management Section (TOMS), Badboyz Security, and Gauteng Highway Patrol.
According to Hawks, the action followed intelligence received from the Modus Operandi Centre (MDOC) regarding an intended armed robbery at a business in Kwezi, Mofolo.
"When the suspects realised they were being observed, they split up and fled in two vehicles. A high-speed chase ensued, followed by a shootout," said Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale.
The arrested suspects are expected to face multiple charges, including business robbery, attempted murder, and possession of illegal firearms.
Mogale has confirmed that the team is still pursuing a seventh suspect who fled on foot.
Police have urged the public to come forward with any information that could help arrest the remaining suspect.
