The launch of the controversial book 'Gangster State: Unraveling Ace Magushule's web of State Capture' at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town has been cancelled amid concerns over safety.
The decision comes after protesters disrupted the launch of the book in Sandton on Tuesday. A group of protesters caused chaos inside the Exclusive Books store in Sandton City, forcing the abrupt halt of the function by ripping up several books and standing in solidarity with African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule.
V&A Waterfront's Head of PR and Communications, Donald Kau says: "The decision was that safety consideration for not only those attending the book launch but for visitors into the V&A precinct. The primary concern was that would we be able to mount personal to safeguard not only the visitors but patrons as well and it was deemed that it was an unnecessary risk."
