Gauteng 2027 online admissions for Grades 1 and 8 kick off in August
The Gauteng Department of Education has announced that online applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 admissions to public schools will open on 5 August.
The application period for the 2027 academic year will run until 4 September.
Education MEC Lebogang Maile made the announcement in Johannesburg on Monday.
"We encourage every parent and legal guardian to apply as early as possible, submit authentic supporting documents, follow every step of the application process carefully, and make full use of the department's official support services whenever assistance is required," he said.
Maile said parents would be required to register using new login credentials, as previous usernames and passwords will no longer be valid.
"No new applications will be accepted once the application period has closed," he said.
Parents have been advised to apply to a minimum of three and a maximum of five schools to improve their children's chances of placement.
The department also cautioned against applying to only one school, saying this does not improve a child's chances of being placed.
Parents have also been reminded that applications for Grades 2 to 7 and Grades 9 to 12 must be submitted directly to schools.
The department's online admissions system has previously faced technical issues, placement delays, limited school options, and accessibility challenges for some parents.
