Gauteng awaiting trial prisoners escape
Police have launched a man hunt for five awaiting trial prisoners who escaped while being transported to Johannesburg Prison.
The five escapees face murder charges.
Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says prisoners broke free when the truck they were travelling in was attacked by a group of men.
"The truck was attacked on the Golden Highway by suspects travelling in a BMW. They shot at the truck with a rifle and they managed to cut the piece on the side of the truck and the five suspects escaped," says Dlamini.

The driver of the truck was wounded in the leg and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
Dlamini says investigating officers have been alerted.
"We are talking to the investigating officers and may release the identikits tomorrow."
