The Gauteng Department of Education says it will respond to grievances raised by pupils at Pretoria Girls High by Wednesday.

The department met with the pupils on Friday amid renewed reports of racism and discrimination at the school.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona says the pupils raised a myriad of issues and officials took a decision to respond by Wednesday.
“All other issues that were raised and disposed of at that level. An undertaking was made that responses will be coming by Wednesday.”

A group of pupils staged a protest on Thursday against the school’s hair policy, which they say has not been resolved.
This is not the first time that learners at the school have protested against the school's hair policy.
In August 2016, pupils protested against an instruction for black pupils to straighten their hair.
At the time Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi recommended a review of that section of the school's policy.
