Funeral gatherings, with a maximum of 50 people, have been allowed since the start of the national lockdown in March.

Strict hygiene regulations are supposed to be in place for these gatherings.

"We are appealing to communities to be extra cautious and to adhere to regulations when organising and attending funerals,” says departmental spokesperson Kwara Kekana.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Gauteng now sits on 18 978.

The department has also confirmed that 718 people are currently hospitalised in public and private health facilities in the province.
