Gauteng NGOs to be paid by Friday
Updated | By Jacaranda FM news
Gauteng Premier David Makhura has given an assurance that all NGOs will be paid by Friday.
"All the loading of NGOs was done by our Treasury Department, so NGOs will get their money on Friday," Makhura said.
Presenting the 2017/18 Budget Vote for his office, Makhura said Finance MEC Barbara Creecy and MEC of Health Gwen Ramakgopa have managed to establish the root cause of the problem.
More than 100 NGOs have not received their money from the provincial government, raising fears of a tragedy similar to the Life Esidimeni debacle.
The premier warned senior officials who failed to authorise payments to the respective NGOs that they will face serious consequences.
On Tuesday, Ramakgopa revealed that 149 NGOs had not been paid for the past six months.
