Gauteng to work with KZN govt to facilitate return of Queen’s remains

The Gauteng provincial government says it will work with its counterparts in KwaZulu-Natal to facilitate the return of the remains Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu to the Royal Family.

Her Majesty Queen Shiyiwe Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu.

The Queen passed away following an illness on Thursday.


She died a few months after she took over the throne from King Goodwill Zwelithini ka BhekuZulu. 


Gauteng government spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says a team has been established to assist in the process. 



"Gauteng Premier David Makhura has since appointed MEC’s for Community Safety and Health, Faith Mazibuko and Dr Nomathemba 


Mokgethi, respectively, working with law enforcement agencies, to ensure a safe passage for the remains of the Queen to Kwa-Zulu Natal.”


KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala has submitted a request to President Cyril Ramaphosa for the granting of a state funeral to the Queen. 


"The application of the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government is indeed being considered by the Presidency, taking into account all matters tabled and submitted in the proposal.



“The KZN provincial government will await further communication and feedback from the Presidency.”
