The Department of Health in Gauteng will embark on another surgical marathon as part of its Mandela Day activities on Thursday.
This year, the department will focus on fast-tracking surgical operations for patients currently on the waiting lists across key specialities, such as paediatrics, orthopaedic, neurology, urology, myomectomy, and breast surgeries.
During the 2023 event, the department performed 358 surgical procedures on patients who were on waiting lists for elective surgeries.
Departmental spokesperson Motalatale Modiba said the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital will perform 120 surgical procedures across various specialities.
He said other facilities across the province will also be participating in the surgical marathon.
