Gautrain services ‘unaffected’ by Numsa strike
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The Bombela Operating Company has assured Gautrain commuters that its contingency measures will keep the trains on track and on time.
Gautrain employees affiliated with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa downed tools on Monday morning.
The union is involved in a wage dispute with the company which operates the Gautrain.
The union’s demands include a 13% across-the-board salary increase.
Gautrain spokesperson Kesagee Nayager said train services remained unaffected on Monday morning.
"The Bombela Operating Company wishes to assure Gautrain passengers that the planned strike by Numsa workers will not disrupt services.
"The company has implemented contingency plans to ensure that customers are not adversely affected by the strike.”
NUMSA's spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi Majola, on Sunday said the strike will continue until the workers’ demands are met.
