Humanitarian group Gift of the Givers dispatched its teams to Vredefort in the Free State on Thursday amid a cholera outbreak in the area.
The assistance comes amid the deaths of three family members who were reportedly infected with the water-borne disease.
During President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to the Rooiwal wastewater treatment plant on Thursday, he admitted that the government has failed the people of Hammanskraal.
The death toll now stands at 32.
Gift of the Givers founder Dr Imtiaz Sooliman says the teams will distribute water to affected communities.
“We received calls yesterday that some patients succumbed to the disease in the last few days. Our teams from Hammanskraal were dispatched to Vredefort last night.
“Our teams will gather that critical information during assessments today as they distribute 2304 x 5L water and 5000 rehydration sachets to affected communities.”
