Updated | By Samkelo Maseko
Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba says he is still applying his mind on whether to extend immigration permits for Zimbabwean nationals.
The Zimbabwe Special Permit (ZSP) expires this year.
Gigaba says there many instances of fraud with temporary immigration permits and some nationals end up bribing home affairs officials just to stay in the country.

The minister says they are mindful that time is running out and people are starting to get anxious.
"We have been saying to many that they need to regularise their stay in the country by applying for visas. So, if you are a holder of a ZSP and are studying at a South African university, apply for a study visa. Get yourself out of the ZSP. A ZSP by its nature is a ministerial discretionary permit. That is why we don't call it a visa," says Gigaba.
