The City of Ekurhuleni has begun a process to rename some of its major intersections and roads after anti-apartheid struggle icons.
Mayoral spokesperson Phakamile Mbengashe says the decision was taken during a city council sitting on Wednesday.
The city plans to rename all 35 roads it owns under its jurisdiction.
Gillooly’s Interchange will be named after anti-apartheid icon and Rivonia trialist George Bizos. It has been recommended that Olifantsfontien Road be renamed after anti-apartheid struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela Mandela and Van Buuren off-ramp after former president Thabo Mbeki.
