Govt decision on experience ‘will help first-time job seekers’
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) has welcomed a decision by the Department of Public Service and Administration to remove previous experience as an entry-level requirement for government job seekers .

The decision will come into effect in 2019.
The agency's spokesperson, Lerato Gambu says this will hopefully open up more job opportunities for the youth.
"There are many graduates, who have completed university degrees, who are still unemployed. We call on all companies, both in the public and private sector, to make a deliberate effort to seek out unemployed graduates and employ them."

Gambu says the NYDA has been calling for the scrapping of experience and is delighted by Minister Ayanda Dlodlo's decision.
"This is because when you go to every robot in the country you see a graduate donning his gown saying he is unemployed.
"You've got qualified young people - engineers, doctors - wandering the streets unemployment due to this monster called experience.”
Gambu says NDYDA is urging the government to make this law to ensure that the private sector follows government’s example.
