Govt slams ‘lawlessness, vandalism’ during Clicks protests
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Government has slammed the violence and destruction of property during some of Monday’s protests at Clicks stores across the country.

At least two Clicks stores were torched during the protests at more than 400 of the health and beauty retailer’s branches.
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) shut down Clicks stores amid anger over an advertising campaign depicting black people’s hair as “dry and dull” while white people’s hair was shown as “normal”.
Government spokesperson Phumla Williams says while government is equally disturbed by the advert, it cannot condone acts of lawlessness and vandalism.

“Engaging in lawless behaviour is not a responsible way to resolve conflict.
“As this matter is being ventilated, the government calls on all South Africans to resist the temptation to take the law into their own hands, remain calm and follow the correct and legal channels to address their concerns.”
Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu says the government will not tolerate any form of discrimination.
“Even in the face of resistance by a small minority, we continue with efforts to build a united South Africa that we can all be proud of.
“As we launch Heritage Month today (Monday), we are reminded of the many cultures, traditions and languages that make us who we are. In the spirit of social cohesion, let us all cherish and respect one another regardless of color, background, gender and religion.”
