The president made the remarks on Monday morning while replying to the debate on his Opening of Parliament Address.

The implementation of the National Health Insurance Act remains a bone of contention within the government of national unity, with several parties in the GNU opposed to the NHI in its current form.

The NHI Bill was signed into law earlier this year, just a few weeks before the elections.

The South African Medical Association, healthcare industry members, some business organisations, civil rights groups, and political parties have raised concerns about the bill’s signing in its current form.

Some believe that the government will not be able to implement the NHI in its current form, which could lead to the collapse of the country’s healthcare system.

Ramaphosa said the government’s door remains open for engagement.

"A key task for the government over the next five years will be to ensure that everyone in South Africa has equal access to affordable quality health care through the implementation of the National Health Insurance.

"We are unwavering in our commitment to implement universal health coverage in a manner that brings all South Africans on board. We will continue with dialogues, with exchanges, with interactions to make this an important programme for our people,” said Ramaphosa.
