Gupta ally Mosebenzi Zwane docked five months’ salary
The National Assembly has adopted a report of the Joint Committee on Ethics and Members' Interests which found ANC MP Mosebenzi Zwane guilty of several state capture-related charges.
The report was adopted during a sitting of the National Assembly on Tuesday.
The report was compiled after several charges were laid against Zwane by DA MP James Lorimer and the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse in 2017 for an alleged breach of code.
Investigations revealed that Zwane, who is a former minister of mineral resources, received benefits from the Guptas which were not disclosed.
National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said Zwane will be fined the amount equivalent to five months' salary for the breach.
“He received benefits and hospitality that were not disclosed in respect of the travel from Zurich to Dubai on 2 December 2015, which was paid for by the Guptas; being chauffeur-driven in Dubai at the expense of the Guptas (Sahara Computer); and a two-day stay in Delhi, India at the expense of the Guptas.”
Zwane has also been suspended from taking part in parliamentary debates.
“The committee further recommended his suspension from his seat in parliamentary debates for one parliamentary term for the breach - that he participated in the negotiations of the sale of the Optimum Coal Mine to Tegeta and approved the sale,” Mapisa-Nqakula added.
