Gupta arrests: Outa awaiting successful extradition from Dubai
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
Civil society organisation Outa says it is awaiting the successful extradition of the Gupta brothers from Dubai to South Africa.
The Ministry of Justice on Monday confirmed the arrests of Rajesh and Atul Gupta in Dubai on Monday evening.
The two brothers are facing charges related to the Nulane corruption case in the Free State.
The charges were brought against the brothers after Nulane Investments Director, Iqbal Sharma allegedly received a R25m tender to complete a feasibility survey on the Estina Dairy project in the Free State.
The survey was outsourced to Deloitte for R1,5m and R21m was then paid over to Islandsite Investments - a company in which Atul and Rajesh Gupta and their wives were directors.
Outa’s Stefanie Fick says that the Dubai court will have to look at all the facts and evidence before making a decision on their extradition.
"The Dubai court will help have to look at all the facts and evidence to be sort of convinced that South Africa has enough that there was a crime committed and their rights will be looked after.”
