'Guptas had a vision for an African bank' Molefe tells commission
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The Commission of Inquiry into State Capture has heard that the Gupta brothers had the vision to establish an African bank.
Former Eskom CEO, Brian Molefe testified at the inquiry on Friday.
He defended his visits to their infamous Saxonwold home, stating that he approached them to enter into a deal to purchase Nedbank and revamp it into an African bank.
Molefe said they saw the need for such a bank as African people were struggling to qualify for loans at existing banks.
"The Guptas spoke to one of the richest people in India. I met him but I am just reluctant to mention his name. He agreed to help us with raising capital to buy Nedbank. We went to the reserve bank me, this man and MR. Ajay Gupta and they decline to sell us Nedbank," he said.

Molefe said he knew nothing about the family demanding that he be appointed as the CEO of Eskom.
He also claimed that he had no idea that his name was mentioned in meetings with them.
Molefe denied being involved in any attempts to capture Eskom.
