The City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department confirmed that one person died in Region 7 after the roof of a structure collapsed under the force of heavy hail and strong winds.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find the victim already deceased.

Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Nana Radebe-Kgiba described the incident as a devastating outcome of the extreme weather.

"This is a deeply tragic loss. Our teams responded immediately, but unfortunately, the person had already succumbed to injuries caused by the collapsing roof.

"Severe weather can have unpredictable and life-threatening consequences. We are urging residents to take warnings seriously and remain alert at all times."

The fatal incident comes as Tshwane concluded a rapid situational assessment across affected regions.

Five regions — 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 - recorded significant storm damage, ranging from blocked drains and flooded roads to uprooted trees and damaged property.

Bronkhorstspruit, where the death occurred, was among the hardest hit.

Across Regions 2 (Doornpoort, Wonderboom, Sinoville, Annlin, Montana), 3 (Danville, Daspoort, Atteridgeville, Lotus Gardens), 4 (Centurion) and 5 (K54 Road), emergency teams were deployed to clear blocked routes, cut and remove fallen trees, and assist residents whose homes had flooded.
