Harsh sentence for Karabo Mokoena’s killer

Convicted killer Sandile Mantsoe has
been handed an effective prison sentence of 32 years for the murder of
his ex-girlfriend Karabo Mokoena.
Acting Judge Peet Johnson had harsh words for Mantsoe when handing down the sentence in the High Court in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Judge Johnson described Mantsoe as a “devil in disguise”.
"One gets the impression that you thought your riches will get you anywhere but it got you nowhere.”
Mantsoe was sentenced to 30 years for the murder, 5 years for assault and four years for defeating the ends of justice. Two of the 5 years for assault, and 3 of the 4 years for obstruction of justice, will run concurrently with the murder sentence.
Johnson says Mokoena was described by witnesses as a vibrant person with a great future ahead of her.
"She cared for the community, specifically for the abused women."
The judge said it is ironic that Mantsoe's abusive nature ultimately led to Mokoena's death.
