The National Disaster Management Centre is keeping a close eye on cyclone Eloise.

The tropical storm is set to hit northeast Limpopo, Mpumalanga and the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal by Sunday.

Eloise is gaining strength and is expected to cause significant rainfall, that may result in flash flooding and strong winds.

Cogta urged residents to secure animals, livestock, and pets in high lying areas, and have potable water and non-perishable foods for at least three days.

"Residents in these three provinces are urged to; monitor the local news for updates on the development of the storm thereby raising their awareness of the developments to enable them to make informed and appropriate action where needed,” read a statement released on Saturday.
