Hawks arrest three in Gupta raids
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The Hawks have arrested three people in connection with the investigation into the scandal-tainted Vrede Dairy Farm project in the Free State.
The elite anti-crime unit raided the Gupta home in Saxonwold and other premises in Gauteng on Wednesday morning.
The Hawks say they expect another two people to hand themselves over to authorities.
It not clear whether the suspects arrested are part of the Gupta family or related to them.
The Vrede Dairy farm project was meant to empower small black farmers in the Free State, but evidence has emerged showing it was used to line the Gupta family's pockets.
Last month, the offices of the Free State Premier, Ace Magashule and the Free State Department of Agriculture were also raided by the Hawks.
It's alleged the project cost R200 million, with most of the money paid into business accounts linked to the Gupta family.
It's alleged the some of the funds were used to pay for the Gupta family's infamous Sun City wedding in 2013.
The raids come a day after the African National Congress (ANC) announced its decision to recall President Jacob Zuma.
