Hawks probing ‘sabotage’ at Eskom
The Hawks confirmed on Monday that investigations into alleged sabotage at Eskom are underway.
The embattled state-owned power utility opened a criminal case relating to sabotage which is claimed contributed to the widespread rolling blackouts over the past few weeks.
On Wednesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa said there had been “a measure of sabotage” which resulted in a loss of 2,000 megawatts.
The president said someone in the Eskom system disconnected one of the instruments leading one of the boilers tripping.

This comes on the back of rolling blackouts implemented by the power utility. Last week a number of revelations were made on the root of the problem at the ailing state-owned enterprise, including claims of sabotage. Speaking on the final day of the party's elective conference in Nasrec, south of Johannesburg, Malema said they will protect state entities by any means necessary.
Ramaphosa made these remarks at a media briefing at Eskom’s Megawatt Park headquarters in Sunninghill after he cut his visit to Egypt short to deal with the country’s electricity crisis.
He added that from the December 17 right through January 13 the country should be in no position to have any form of load shedding.
Eskom management is expected to meet in January to map the way forward.
