Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The first heatwave of the summer that has descended over the interior of South Africa, is expected to now last longer and persist until Friday.
This is the worst heatwave since November 2019.
Temperatures have been soaring since Sunday in Gauteng and parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the North West to over 30 degrees Celsius.
SA Weather Service (SAWS) forecaster Lulama Pheme says residents in these provinces can expect some relieve from the heat by Friday afternoon.
"It has affected the Northwest province, the northern parts of the Free State, Gauteng province, the Northern Bushveld, the Limpopo Valley and the Mpumalanga province as well.”

Meanwhile, the Gauteng province has implemented water restrictions in three of its Metros.
The cities of Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg have implemented stage two water restrictions after seeing an increase in water demand.
Stage two water restrictions forbid residents from watering their gardens and cleaning their patios with a hose pipe.
