Hill’s Pet recalls canned dog food
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Hill's Pet Nutrition has recalled some of its canned dog food products due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D.
In a statement on their website, the pet food giant says the levels of vitamin D could lead to health problems for dogs such as renal dysfunction.
"While vitamin D is an essential nutrient for dogs, ingestion of elevated levels can lead to potential health issues depending on the level of vitamin D and the length of exposure, and dogs may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss,” the company says.

The company has urged owners of pets which show any of the symptoms to contact a vet.
"Please note that the voluntary recall and withdrawal is isolated to only a few batches of the specified SKUs. No dry foods, cat foods or treats are affected."
Hill's says any pet owners with the specific batch should stop feeding it to their dogs and dispose of the product or return the unopened product to their vet for a refund.
