History as MPs vote to impeach Judge President Hlophe
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The National Assembly on Wednesday voted to impeach suspended Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe.

This has seen him become the first judge to be impeached in democratic South Africa.
An overwhelming majority of 305 MP, including from the ANC and DA, voted in favour of the motion.
Twenty-seven MPs, mainly from the EFF, voted against.
The Judicial Conduct Tribunal unanimously found Hlophe guilty of gross misconduct, he was accused of trying to influence Justices Chris Jafta and Bless Nkabinde in a corruption case relating to former president Jacob Zuma and arms company Thint involving the multi-billion-rand arms deal.
The tribunal also found that Hlophe's conduct seriously threatened and interfered with the independence, impartiality, dignity and effectiveness of the Constitutional Court, effectively threatening public confidence in the judicial system.
The resolution will now be taken to President Cyril Ramaphosa for final action.
