The Department of Home Affairs has dismissed two officials for selling fraudulent South African identity documents to foreign nationals.
Another four has been placed on suspension for similar offences, the department said on Tuesday.
Phathisani Outshiki was dismissed after the Benoni Magistrate’s Court found him guilty on charges related to the issuing of a fraudulent passport.
Outshiki was found guilty of selling 111 documents to foreign nationals, using the details of South African citizens, for R1 000 per application.
The second official, Morena Motsamai from the department’s Germiston office, was convicted of processing 13 passport for a fee of between R2 500 and R5 000 per application.
Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says all six officials have been on the radar of the department’s anti-corruption unit.
"The department is on the trails of more Home Affairs officials who are involved in these shameful acts and will continue to arrest them.
“If you sell your identity, you are replaced by a foreign national on our database which means that you will not be able to access services in country.”
