Home Affairs to open more services under level 2
Young people who are applying for identity documents for the first time will now be able to apply, Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi announced on Friday.
This comes as the Department of Home Affairs makes more services available under level 2 of the lockdown.
Motsoaledi briefed the media on Friday.
"We have received a report from the Department of Basic Education indicating that there are over 600 000 learners who don't have ID's. We are inviting them to come and apply for them," he said.

He said of the temporary ID certificates issued during lockdown level 5 until August, just over 65 000 have expired and holders of these certificates can now apply for their smart ID cards.
"The validity period of the remaining 282 658 TICs has been extended to 31 October.”
Other services that will now be open include amendments and rectifications.
Motsoaledi said South Africans stuck overseas with expired passports can now go to their embassy and apply for new ones.
