Hospital admissions continue to rise as SA battle the Covid-19 third wave

There has been an increase of 607 hospital admissions in public and private hospitals around the country in the past 24 hours.
This has been revealed in the latest statistics released by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Thursday evening.
It shows that there are currently a total of 10 763 patients receiving treatment for Covid-19 related complications at facilities nationwide
When it comes to new cases, there was a total of 16 078 new infections in the country, which brings total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 1 877143.
"This increase represents a 24.5 % positivity rate, a further 148 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 59 406 to date," reads the statement by the NICD.
Gauteng remains the epicentre driving the third wave, and reported 9 521 new infections on Thursday.
Earlier, Premier David Makhura spoke of his concern over the lack of Covid-19 compliance by residents.
