South Africans looking for a getaway can now book themselves into lodges, hotels, guest houses or bed and breakfasts.
Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane outlined the changes to the regulations under level 2 of the lockdown in Pretoria on Wednesday.
"The requirements announced under level 3 remain, meaning record keeping, social distancing and, ensuring masks are worn in terms of our facilities remain. Now we are saying accommodation facilities can now accommodate any South African,” she said.
"We also emphasise that within the breakfast and reception area, in order to ensure there is the safe distance, they need to ensure the 50% occupancy in terms of floor space is maintained.”
She said restaurants located within the facilities, including inside tourist attractions, are subject to the same regulations as all restaurants.
Kubayi-Ngubane believes level 2 will allow the sector to start the road to economic recovery.
