‘Humbled’ Lesufi says ready for top job in Gauteng

Incoming Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says it’s a humbling experience to be chosen by the ANC as its choice to succeed David Makhura.
Lesufi made the remarks at a press briefing held by the ANC's provincial executive committee in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
"I must be honest that I am humbled that the African National Congress felt fit that I must be their candidate,” Lesufi told reporters.
"This movement is a glorious movement but has gone through difficulties, pain and insults and for it to say among all of us we think you're the right person to represent us.
"I accept that with humility and accept it with an open mind and open hands. This is not a celebration but rather serves as a reminder that we need to do work."

Makhura, who has served in the position since 2014, resigned on Tuesday after serving in the portfolio for eight years.
His resignation is expected to come into effect on Thursday before the Gauteng Legislature.
ANC provincial secretary TK Nciza said the province's controversial e-tolls system, unemployment and the energy crisis will be top of the party's agenda.
"We must work very hard in making sure that we deal with this unemployment. The issue of energy is at the top of the agenda, the issue of e-tolls are at the top of the agenda."
