"I feel like I am being held hostage," Mkhwebane tells section 194 inquiry

Suspended Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane told the section 194 inquiry that she feels that she has been held hostage and kept against her will.
The inquiry got off to yet another dramatic start on Wednesday, when Mkhwebane addressed the committee after she was denied an adjournment by chairperson Qubudile Dyanti.
"When it became clear that you had ruled to continue without representation, I asked to be excused and I was no longer participating.
"You refused as well to let me go so I sat against my will and I felt like I am sitting here like a hostage.

"So, I sat yesterday again explaining that I feel like sitting here as if I am in an abusive relationship and I am told just to sit and listen and not view my issues."
However, Dyanti remained steadfast in his decision.
“We are under no obligation to pause and postpone this, there's no legal impediment for us not to proceed with our hearing," he said.
The inquiry is continuing with testimony from the Public Protector's Legal Services Manager, Neels van der Merwe.
