State Capture Inquiry

Oliphant took to the witness stand at the commission of inquiry into state capture on Tuesday.

In 2010, former labour minister Membathisi Mdladlana fired Manyi, but when Oliphant replaced Mdladlana, Manyi called her to say he would be appealing his termination.

Oliphant stated in an affidavit that the former GCIS director-general threatened to take to the department to court.

During his testimony last month, Manyi said he met with Oliphant at O.R Tambo International Airport shortly after her swearing-in labour minister.

Oliphant said she had no recollevtion of such a meeting.

"No, I didn't meet with him. I didn't meet with Mr Manyi at the airport.’

Evidence leader Kate Hofmeyr referred to a letter by Manyi's attorney's regarding their meeting

"Is it my understanding that you are saying this is false?” she asked.

"I can say it is false. I think it's either he misled his attorneys because I didn't met with him. Because after swearing in I went back to KwaZulu-Natal," Oliphant responded.

Oliphant confirmed that she had a meeting with Manyi three weeks after her appointment where he said that he believed he was dismissed from office unfairly.
