An eyewitness to Monday’s shooting on the M1 in Johannesburg has described how he desperately wanted to be anywhere else as he saw the shooting unfold.
The witness saw a group of suspects shoot and injure two people travelling in a BMW on the M1 north near the Jan Smuts off ramp.
It is alleged that two people, a male and a female travelling in an X1, were accosted by five suspects who started shooting at them with pistols and rifles.
"The victims were taken to hospital in a serious condition. The motive behind the shooting is unknown at this stage. The police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects who are said to be driving in a sliver BMW," says police spokesperson Mavela Masondo.
The motive of the shooting is not known.
"We are not sure where the victims were coming from but they were driving toward the north, M1 direction," adds Masondo.
