[WEATHER] Icy polar air to sweep over SA

The South African Weather Service says the cold front currently experienced by residents will soon end and make way for icy polar air and scattered showers.

Forecaster, William Msimanga warned that South Africans haven't felt the worst of the winter yet as the new system consisting of cold air will sweep over the country from Thursday.


Msimanga says temperatures will drop significantly and might result in some rain over Gauteng at the weekend.

Gauteng: Morning frost in places, otherwise fine and cold, becoming partly cloudy in places during the afternoon. It will be cool in the north.

Mpumalanga: Morning fog patches on the escarpment and frost in places on the Highveld, otherwise partly cloudy and cold but cool in the Lowveld.

Limpopo: Morning fog patches on the escarpment, otherwise partly cloudy and cool. 

North West: Morning frost in places, otherwise fine and cold, but cool in the north-east, where it will be partly cloudy.

Free State: Morning frost in places, otherwise fine and cold. It will become partly cloudy in the extreme north-east.

Northern Cape: Morning frost in the eastern and southern interior at first, otherwise fine and cold, but cool in the north. It will be very cold in the south. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly.

Western Cape: Fine and cool to cold with morning frost in places over the interior. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly along the west coast otherwise light north-westerly becoming south-westerly.

Eastern Cape: Morning frost in places over the northern interior, otherwise fine and cold to cool. The wind along the coast will be moderate westerly to north-westerly.

KwaZulu-Natal: Partly cloudy in the extreme north, otherwise fine and cool but cold in the south-western high ground. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly in the north, otherwise moderate north-easterly.
