IDAC confirms arrest warrant issued for Crime Intel boss Khumalo
Updated | By Jacaranda FM Newswatch
The National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption has confirmed warrants of arrest were issued for Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo and Major-General Nosipho Madondo.
The pair presented themselves at the Brooklyn police station on Thursday, after they were informed to do so by IDAC investigators, but were subsequently released the same day.
“The IDAC can confirm that warrants of arrest were issued against General Dumisani Khumalo and Major General Nosipho Madondo only, and no one else from the SAPS. The two individuals were contacted by IDAC investigators to present themselves at the Brooklyn police station on 18 June 2026,” NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said.
He said the decision to release Khumalo and Madondo was informed by their involvement in the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security cluster team that is assigned to prepare for the 30 June 2026 protests against illegal immigration.
“In the interest of ensuring synergy and efficiency in the work of that team, IDAC thus decided to suspend the execution of the warrants of arrest until the assignment of the two officers is completed. The two officers were subsequently contacted to no longer hand themselves over prior to their arrival at the Brooklyn police station,” he added.
Kganyago dispelled media reports of what he called “speculation and unrelated information” about the arrests as false.
On Thursday, IDAC said it wished to set the record straight, adding that Khumalo, or anyone else from Crime Intelligence, had not been arrested.
MKHWANAZI, LAWYER CHALLENGES IDAC’S DENIAL OF KHUMALO 'ARREST'
Speaking outside the police station on Thursday, Khumalo’s lawyer said his client was left “embarrassed” after reporting to the police station expecting to be arrested, only for IDAC officials not to arrive.
James Ndebele confirmed that the two senior police officials were instructed to report to the station by IDAC on Thursday, but no arrest was carried out.
At the same time, SAPS Head of Organised Crime Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi arrived at the police station, saying he wanted to witness what was happening after receiving intelligence that IDAC was planning action against him and Khumalo.
Mkhwanazi said he initially did not believe the information, but changed his mind after Khumalo told him he had received a call instructing him to report to the station.
In what seemingly corroborates IDAC’s version, stated in the statement on Friday, Mkhwanazi said he later became concerned after another call was allegedly made telling the generals not to come.
